PHRANTONE 14-2023

20 Nov. 2023

Dear Phran Klub,

Next month, I’m departing for four months in New Zealand with my partner, Jess. The Phrantone will be taking a break, too.

This will be the second extended sabbatical we’ve saved up for. In 2015, Jess + I quit our jobs to live in France for the year. This practice of taking a pause is enormously important to our expansion as artists.

We’ve built it into other cycles of our life, too. Abralind Art Week, for example, is our longstanding tradition of dedicating the week between Christmas and New Year’s to making art. We rent a house with lots of windows by the water or mountains, rearrange the furniture into whatever creative workspaces we need, and we recharge.

It’s a little contrary to my nature, which tends towards obsession with productivity, but in NZ I’ll remind myself that rest and reflection make me stronger. I’ll use the following hack:
by taking a break, I am producing strength.

We’re planning to return to D.C. in April. I’ll share stories on my Instagram (@fabralind) if you’d like to follow along in the meantime.

Yours truly,
Frankie with a P-H
