PHRANTONE 03-2022

August 11, 2022

Dear Phran Klub,

In high school, I was naturally drawn to math. Sometimes nowadays I wonder if I should be spending more time with its beauty. Today, I can barely remember what matrices are, and asymptotes have become mere metaphors. Nearly all I have left is a recurring dream about sinusoidal curves.

Last year, I started reading Math with Bad Drawings, by Ben Orlin, which my friend Matthias recommended. It’s a fantastic read. Orlin’s math love is contagious.

With my focus returned somewhat to numbers, I spotted the premise for the game you’ll find in this issue of the Phrantone. I’ve spent the past few months developing it with my friends Alan + Marc. I hope you enjoy the enclosed V6 sample pack.

You’re awesome,
✍🏼

P.S. One of my favorite card questions was rejected in early rounds of play testing. Alas. I’ve nonetheless immortalized it on this issue’s envelope with the first ~10,000 digits of e. The question: “How many digits of a mathematical constant like pi (π) can you recite?”
For e, I’m at 16.
